FYI I've seen it both ways on the internet, so I was just wondering what you all would do.

I do it C1-C2, C3-C4, C4-C5, etc.

Do NOT do it C-4, especially if you're doing a Workers' Compensation deposition, because C-4 and C-3 indicates forms that doctors use for patient care.

Thanks. How do you get your numbers to go lower like that?    -    Reportingforya 8/8/2012 8:40:06 AM | Flag
That's just the font that the website uses making it appear lower.    -    KRORPERNYC 8/8/2012 11:15:58 AM | Flag

He had problems with his C3 through C5 vertebrae.  I do it that way if the doctor says "through".  I use the hyphen if the doctor says C3 dash C5, and then I would write it:  He had problems with his C3-C5 vertebrae.

More specifically..

When they indicate L1 through 2, you write it that way.

If they say L1-2 level without indicating a word such at "to" or "through," then you write L1-2.

If they say at the 1-2 level without indicating words, then 1-2.

MRIs designate the levels by L1-L2 with hyphens, but of course whatever the doctors say is what's put in the record :-)

It depends if the word through was spoken or not. If it was, put the word in there.
